EXTRACT FROM RECOMMENDING OFFICER'S REPORT, AND/OR DIARY REFERENCES.

For conspicuous gallantry & devotion to duty displayed in rescuing some 460 Chinese of various New Territory North villages from the Sha Tin Walled Village between the British & Japanese lines on the morning of the 10th December 1941 (Please see Diary Entry No. 3 of the 10th. See also Diary Entry No. 33 of the 9th, which relates a similar attempt made by Sergt. Mcpherson & Sub-Inspector Wong to rescue villagers which was unsuccessful owing to a sudden enemy advance but which led up to the second & successful expedition.)
For courage and devotion to daty displayed in volunteering and guard- ing, at the G.S.0.1's request the Kowloon Locks, Ma Tau Kok Government Pier & Kowloon City Ferry Fier, & keeping the approaches clear to assist the Military in carrying out their successful evacuation from Kowloon on the afternoon and evening of l1th December,1941 Please see Diary Entry No. 50 of the 11th December.

For courage & devotion to duty dis- played in forming one of a volunteer party which proceeded to Green Island on the S. L. "Jeanette" on the night of December 12th,1941, in order to obtain dynamite and bring it back to the Island for use during the War. Flease see Diary Entries Nos. 19 -30 & Bath of Lecember.
"Though strictly this lies in the province of the Harbour Master, who arranged the expedition, it appears to me that these officers are worthy of some recognition in volunteering and carrying out an extremely danger- ous mission which in fact resulted in their loss of life when the S. L. "Jeanette" blew up."
